We are located in the sunny south east of the country, in Co. Waterford, in the parish of Abbeyside, which adjoins the town of Dungarvan. Dungarvan is a seaside town with a population of over 10,000 people. The school and the Naíonra are situated on land that was purchased by the Dept. of Ed. & Science from the Augustinians. We have two school yards, where the children play during their break times. Saint Augustine's secondary school is located right next door to the school, on 43 acres of land, and the river Colligan borders the college on the south side.
Tá an meánscoil suite ar 43 acra agus abhainn an Choileagáin ag rith in aice le talamh an Choláiste. We are fortunate to have an arrangement with the college where by all the amenities in the college are at our disposal, a running track, gymnasium, auditorium, basketball courts, hurling and football pitches and we have permission to walk the grounds at any time on nature trails. These facilities prove a vital resource in delivering many areas of the curriculum.
We are located by the sea backed by the Comeragh Mountains with scenic views of Helvick Head and Dungarvan Bay to the front of the school. White strand is within walking distance. Clonea Strand, a blue flag beach, is two miles from the school and a small harbour in Ballinacourty suitable for pleasure boats is situated a mile from the school. This is a very popular spot for water sports such as water skiing, surfing and sailing. We are extremely fortunate to be in an area inhabited by rare birds in our rivers and marches. As a result bird watchers sporting binoculars leaning over the Barnawee Bridge is a regular occurrence depending on the season.
The town of Dungarvan has two beautiful playgrounds which are open to the public and actively engage children of all ages. Our local library is located on the quay in Dungarvan. The children look forward to visiting the library many times during the year. The town now boasts a new theatre which is becoming a popular social amenity. We also have a museum, where in all information regarding the history of the locality can be accessed easily. A castle, seen as you enter the harbour, guarded the town in Norman times and hence the name 'Dungarvan' originated in its Irish formation 'Dún' meaning fort or castle. Works have been carried out on this historic building and the children have often visited the fort.
