Brat Glas do Scoil Gharbháin

Bhí céiliúradh iontach againn ar an Luan seo caite d’ainneoin na haimsire nuair a ardaíodh an Brat Glas i gclós na scoile. Thosnaigh Coiste na Scoileanna Glasa ar an obair seo breis ‘s dhá bhliain ó shin agus bhí toradh a gcuid oibre le feiscint ar an Luan seo caite.

We celebrated in style on Monday last despite the elements, when the Green Flag was raised for Scoil Gharbháin. Our Green Schools’ Committee consisting of past and present pupils and past and present parents began this fantastic work over two years ago and the result of their efforts was seen on Monday last.

Chuireamar fáilte roimh an Teachta Dála John Deasy, Maor an Chontae Liam Brazil agus b’iontach dúinne fáilte a chur roimh maor an Bhaile Mór iar thuismitheoir agus cara mór ag Scoil Gharbháin Teresa Wright. Labhair Anne Sullivan, Oifigeach Timpeallachta an Chomhairle Chontae agus bhí blas breá ar a cuid Gaeilge agus thug Cathaoirleach na Scoile Ailbhe Ní Neachtain ard mholadh don obair bhreá a thug an Brat Glas inár dtreo.

We welcomed TD John Deasy, the County Mayor Liam Brazil and it was fantastic to see our past parent and present Grandparent and a wonderful friend to Scoil Gharbháin Dungarvan’s Town Mayor Teresa Wright, Anne O’Sullivan, the Environmental Officer for Waterford County Council spoke as Gaeilge and our Chairperson Ailbhe Ní Neachtain had wonderful praise for the school’s commitment towards the Green Flag.

Ba mhór an chúis bróid agus ba mhór an onóir don scoil é nuair a d’ardaigh Jack de Laitheasa, iar scoláire, agus Galfaire óg na Mumhan atá mar bhall d’fhoireann na hÉireann sa ghailf, an Brat Glas do Scoil Gharbháin.

It was a moment of pride and a wonderful honour for us when a past pupil and Munster Young Golfer of the Year who has represented Ireland, Jack Leacy raised the Green Flag for Scoil Gharbháin.

Lean an céiliúradh ar feadh an lae. Ár mbuíochas ó chroí le Múinteoir Siobhán comhoirdaitheoir na Scoileanna Glasa a dh’eagraigh an céiliúradh iontach ar fad, tuismitheoirí na scoileanna a dh’eagraigh an bia agus a chaith an lá ag freastal ar chách, ceoltóirí agus cór na scoile le Múinteoir Hilda agus Múinteoir Máire a sheinn ‘s a chan dúinn agus le Múinteoir Onra a thug ana chabhair dúinn leis an mBrat Glas agus a chum an t-amhrán dos na Scoileanna Glasa do Scoil Gharbháin. Bhí lá iontach ag gach éinne.

Celebrations continued for the day. A big thank you to our Green Schools Co-ordinator Múinteoir Siobhán who organised the entire event, to our fantastic Parents who organised the refreshments and who spent the day serving the crowds, to our wonderful musicians and choir who entertained us with the help of Múinteoir Hilda and Múinteoir Máire and to Múinteoir Onra who gave us fantastic help and support in achieving this award and who composed our song for the Green Flag.  We all had a wonderful day.
