Craobh na hÉireann agus Cuairt ó na himreoirí

Bhí sceitiminí ar na páistí ar an Aoine seo caite nuair a tháinig roinnt imreoirí ó phainéal Camógaíochta Phortláirge ar cuairt go dtí an scoil. Cuireadh fáilte 's fiche roimh Máiréad Ní Mhurchú (Captaen), Deirdre Fahey, Áine Lyng, Fiona Ní Chadhla deirfiúr le Múinteoir Máire agus le Sinéad Ní Chadhla agus ba mhór an chúis bróid dúinn tuismitheoir ón scoil Mary O'Donnell Mamaí le Kailyn Ní Dhomhnaill a bheith ina dteannta. Bhí na páistí lán de cheisteanna idir an bricfeasta a bhíonn le n-ithe acu, an cuimhne is fearr atá acu mar imreoir, an rabhadar riamh gortaithe, agus ana chuid ceisteanna eile. Bhí slí álainn ag na cailíní leo, iad thar a bheith foighneach. Bhronn rang 6 cártaí ar na himreoirí  agus guíodh gach rath orthu. Chaith an cailíní ana chuid ama ag síniú na ngeansaithe. Bhi ana chluiche ann inné.  Is ar chomhscór a chríochnaigh an cluiche agus mar sin beidh lá eile ag an bPaorach.  Portláirge abú!!

All-Ireland Junior Camogie Final agus a memorable visit from the players

The children were in awe and extremely excited when some of the Waterford camogie panel visited Scoil Gharbháin on Friday last. They received a tremendous welcome Máiréad Ní Mhurchú (Captain) Áine Lyng, Fiona Ní Chadhla, Múinteoir Máire's and Sinéad Ní Chadhla's sister, Deirdre Fahey and we were extremely proud to welcome Mary O'Donnell who is a parent here in Scoil Gharbháin, Kailyn Ní Dhomhnaill's Mam. The children plagued the players with questions from what they ate for breakfast, their most memorable game,  were they ever injured, some were looking for tips and many more. They players had a lovely manner with the children. Rang 6 presented the players with good luck cards and we wished them every success in the final. The players spent the rest of the afternoon signing jerseys. We viewed an exciting game of camogie yesterday with a draw on the final whistle and therefore we get to do it all again on the 3rd of October. Up Waterford.

Ionad Siopadóireachta agus an Clár Bán

Táimíd sa Chraobh san Ionad Siopadóireachta in iomaíocht le seacht scoil eile agus clár bán a bheith mar dhuais ag an mbuaiteoir. Tá bosca poist le Scoil Gharbháin san ionad siopadóireachta agus nuair a fhaigheann tú cárta  éarlaise as do chuid siopadóireachta cuir isteach sa bhosca poist é. Críochnóidh an comórtas seo ag tús mí na Samhna an scoil leis an méid is mó cártaí is acu san a bheidh an bua. Ba mhór linn bhúr gcuid tacaíochta. Bígí linn.

This competition closes in the 1st of November and the school with the most tokens collected will be the winner. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Cuairt ó na himreoirí Foireann Peil na mBan

Ba mhór an onóir don scoil é ar an Déardaoin seo caite nuair a thug Linda Wall agus Aoife Mc Govern cuairt ar na páistí scoile.  Labhair na himreoirí leis na páistí agus d'fhreagair siad ceisteanna na bpáistí agus gaoluinn ar a dtoil acu.  Cuireadh ceisteanna orthu mar gheall ar an traenáil, imreoirí a bhíonn deacair a mharcáil, bia a itheann said don bhricfeasta agus nodanna maidir le traenáil. Bhí lámha breátha tinne ag Aoife agus Linda ag imeacht uainn taréis dóibh tamall mhaith a chaitheamh ag síniú geansaithe na bpáistí. Ár mbuíochas ó chroí leo.  Bhí mí ádh ceart orthu ar an Domhnach seo caite. Dheineadar tréan iarracht an corn a thabhairt leo.  Le cúnamh Dé beimíd i bPáirc an Chrócaigh arís an bhliain seo chugainn. Bhíomar ana bhródúil go deo astu go háirithe agus seisear den bpainéil ón bparóiste, an Captaen Mary Foley san áireamh.  Bhí post speisialta ag beirt dhalta linn i bPáirc an Chrócaigh ar an Domhnach :Cliodhna Nic Craith agus Ciara Ní Shúilleabháin a bhí mar mascots ag an bhfoireann agus aintín leo Gráinne Enright ag imirt. Mar a deir an seanfhocal agus is fíor é 'beidh lá eile ag an bpaorach'

A Visit from some players: Waterford Ladies Gaelic Football Team

It was a wonderful honour for the school on Thursday last when Linda Wall and Aoife Mc Govern visited Scoil Gharbháin prior to the All- Ireland Final.  The players spoke to the children and answered their questions as Gaeilge which added to the occasion for us.  The children's curiousity ranged from challenging opponents, what they eat for breakfast to looking for tips about training.  Linda and Aoife departed with very sore hands I'm sure after spending the remainder of their time signing jerseys.  A great big thank you to the girls.  They were very unfortunate on Sunday last as they put in a supreme effort to bring the cup home but we're confident that we'll be back in Croke Park again next year.  We were very proud of the players. Its an honour to contest an All-Ireland Final in Croke Park, especially as six of the panel are from the parish with the Captain Mary Foley included. Two of our pupils held a prestigious place in Croke Park last Sunday: Cliodhna Nic Craith and Ciara Ní Shúilleabháin were the team mascots, Gráinne Enright's nieces. Well as the saying goes 'Our day will come'

'Cara ag léamh liom'

Cuireadh ceardlann ar bun i Scoil Gharbháin ar an Déardaoin seo caite faoi stiúr Onra Nic Ionnrachtaigh agus Michelle Uí Chléirigh chun an scéim seo a chur ar bun. D'fhreastal tuismitheoirí ó bhunscoil St. Mary's, tuismitheoirí ó Scoil Gharbháin ar an gceardlann mar aon le ionadaithe ó bhunscoil Nene Valley i bPeterborough i Sasana atá nascaithe leis an dhá scoil anseo.  Cuireadh treoir orainn a bhí i láthair maidir le conas páistí a mhealladh le dul ag léamh agus ar conas suim léitheoireachta a mhúscailt iontu.  D'éirigh thar barr linn agus tá árd mholadh tuillte ag Onra agus ag Michelle as dúthracht a gcuid oibre.  Dhein 'Nemeton' taifeadadh ar an gceardlann mar chuid den tionscal le dlúthdhiosca a chur le chéile a bheidh á sheoladh againn níos déanaí sa bhliain.  Ár mbuíochas le Máiréad Ní Mhurchú agus le Déuglán de Paor ó Nemeton a bhí go díograsach i mbun oibre ar feadh na maidine.

Reading Buddy Workshop

A training workshop got under way on Thursday last in Scoil Gharbháin with Múinteoir Onra and Michelle Uí Chléirigh as facilitators as part of our Comenius Regio project.  The workshop was attended by some parents who have volunteered for the project from both Scoil Gharbháin and St. Mary's Primary school,  Representatives were also present from Nene Valley Primary School in Peterborough England and from the City Council in Peterborough and Cathy Callinan from the VEC here in Dungarvan.  The workshop illustrated methods of encouraging and nourishing our pupils interest in reading.  Onra and Michelle had us all actively involved as a result of their intensive preparations and well done on a successful workshop.  The workshop was also filmed by Nemeton as part of the project with a view to making a DVD which will be launched next summer.  A big thank you to Máiréad Ní Mhurchú and Déuglán de Paor from Nemeton who were working with us during the workshop.

Banna Práis Dhungarbháin i Scoil Gharbháin

Cuireadh fáilte iontach roimh an mBanna Ceoil nuair a sheinneadar dúinn i gclós na scoile le déanaí. Tugadh deis do chuid des na daltaí triall a bhaint as na huirlisí gan trácht ar chuid des na múinteoirí. Tá ana sheans go bhfeiceoimíd Tadhg Ó Foghlú, Seán Ó Duinn agus Shauna Ní Fhlanncha ag stiúradh ceolfhoireann sa todhchaí. Sheinn an banna ceoil ana chuid píosaí ceoil ó scannáin cáiliúla agus níl dabht ar bith ach go mbeidh daltaí ag lorg ballraíochta leo. Bhaineamar go léir ana thaitneamh go deo as an maidin a chaith said inár dteannta, ár mbuíochas leo. Is deas na h-iar dhaltaí a fheiscint ina mbaill.

Dungarvan Brass Band received a very warm welcome when they played to a captive audience in the school yard recently.  Some of our pupils had the opportunity to test their lung capacity as they tested the instruments.  We may certainly see Tadhg Ó Foghlú, Seán Ó Duinn and Shauna Ní Fhlanncha conducting an orchestra in future years.  The band played many popular pieces. I'm certain many of our pupils will be seeking membership with the band.  We thoroughly enjoyed their visit in the warm autumn sunshine. Míle buíochas to Dungarvan Brass Band.
